Dalgety Bay Community Pump Track Project
Welcome to the Dalgety Bay Community Pump Track Project, a dynamic initiative driven by Dalgety Community Trust in collaboration with a group of enthusiastic young individuals people from our community. Our mission is to bring the thrill of a pump track to the heart of Dalgety Bay, promoting active lifestyles, fostering community connections, and creating a space for all ages and abilities to enjoy.
Our Core Objectives
At the heart of this project is our focus of delivering a dynamic free to use pump track that everyone can use regardless of age and ability. We have identified the following key objectives to deliver this exciting project:
- Planning for Success: We are diligently preparing to design and construct a community pump track in Dalgety Bay, meticulously planning the resources required for this exciting venture.
- Funding the Future: Our team is dedicated to generating the necessary funds to bring the pump track project to life, ensuring accessibility for everyone in our community.
- Sustainability for Tomorrow: Our forward-thinking approach extends beyond construction, as we strive to establish a sustainable model to maintain and operate the pump track for years to come.
What is a pump track?
A pump track is a continuous circuit featuring rollers, berms, and other features designed for riders to generate momentum through body movements rather than heavy pedalling. It is an inclusive space for all ages and abilities, perfect for children and young people to master biking, scooting, and skateboarding in a secure environment.
We have developed an exciting design proposal for our pump track in collaboration with our selected design and construction contractor, Clark and Kent. They have designed and built over 120 tracks across the UK, including tracks for the London Olympics and Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Our track is designed to ‘competition standard’ and should attract wide interest and recognition as a destination amongst the growing number of tracks across the country.

What are the Benefits of a Pump Track
As with all pump tracks across the country, the Dalgety Bay pump track promises an array of transformative benefits for the community:
- Community-Driven Asset: The pump track will stand as a valuable community asset, funded by the very individuals who have worked hard to ensure its creation. The final design will be shaped by community input, ensuring its uniqueness and relevance.
- Catalyst for Cycling: The track will foster a cycling culture among young people and children, providing a space for skill-building and fun. It will cater to beginners and experienced riders alike.
- Health and Well-Being: By offering an enjoyable exercise environment, the track will encourage healthy and active lifestyles. Engaging in physical activities will contribute to improved well-being and confidence.
- Volunteer Opportunities: The pump track project will create opportunities for community members of all ages to engage in volunteer work, fostering connections and offering potential routes into employment.
- Reduction in Anti-Social Behaviour: Evidence suggests that the presence of a pump track can deter anti-social behaviour as it provides a positive outlet for young people.
- Positive Atmosphere: Our pump track will be a hub of positive energy, where friendships flourish, skills are honed, and lasting memories are created.
A Project with Inclusivity and Accessibility at its Heart
Our project places inclusivity at its core. We are dedicated to creating a track accessible to all, regardless of skill level or physical ability. We continue to partner with local organisations to offer equipment for various activities, ensuring that everyone can experience the track’s joy once it has been built. Access to the track will be free, with minimal charges for organised events, coaching, and competitions.
As we progress, we’re eager to engage with the 13–24-year-old age group, the primary beneficiaries of the pump track. In the coming months, we’ll organise activities to encourage active participation from this demographic.
Location
Our pump track will be located within the existing grounds of the Dalgety Bay Sports and Leisure Centre, placing it at the heart of an already vibrant community space. Designed with convenience and accessibility in mind, it will become a lively hub of activity, seamlessly connected to nearby safe cycle routes and supporting facilities.
The track will be open access and free to use for the vast majority of the time, allowing people of all ages and abilities to simply turn up and ride. To ensure the track is self-funding and sustainable for years to come, we will also explore opportunities for limited, fee-paying use—such as competitions, time trials, coaching sessions, and local club activities. This balanced approach means the pump track can remain welcoming and accessible, while generating the income needed to maintain and improve it long into the future.
Progress to Date
In September 2025, we were delighted to share the exciting news that, after almost five years of dedication and perseverance, we had successfully raised the full £370,000 we believe is needed to deliver this fantastic new facility for our town. This funding has been secured thanks to the incredible generosity of more than 20 separate donors—both large and small—and we are immensely grateful to every one of them for their support and for the confidence they have shown in Dalgety Community Trust.
The momentum continued on 24 November 2025, when we were thrilled to receive full planning consent from Fife Council for the pump track. This marked a major milestone for the project, bringing months of hard work by the Trust team and our contractors to a successful conclusion and moving us one step closer to turning this vision into reality.
We are immensely grateful to all of our funders, contractors and consultants as well as the Trust board and volunteers whose support has got us this far.
What’s Next?
Looking ahead to 2026, we are aiming to begin construction of the pump track in the spring, with a potential start as early as March 2026. Reaching this exciting stage will require the completion of several important steps, including finalising the necessary legal agreements with Fife Council to secure a 25-year lease for the site.
Alongside this, we will be completing contractual arrangements with our site contractors and securing final confirmation from a small number of major grant donors that all of their conditions have been met, allowing funds to be released. This work is already well underway, and we are confident it will be completed in good time to enable construction to get underway in March 2026.
